TIME IS SHORT - IMMEDIATE ACTION IS NEEDED
The Local is asking for member support of the Susquehanna to Roseland 500kv Electric Transmission Line Project. The project was approved by the NJ Board of Public Utilities on February 11th. The last key approval is a permit from the National Parks Service (NPS). The public comment period for the first part of the review has been extended till March 12, 2010.
The line will support the electrical demand of New Jersey in the future. The project will create 800 much needed jobs for the next 2 years. After it is completed Local 94 members will have future operation and maintenance of the line.
Environmental impacts of the project are at an absolute minimum. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area encompasses nearly 70,000 acres of land. The proposed transmission line upgrade will touch only about 4 miles. The existing line predates the park. It was built and put into service in the late 1920’s. The NPS assumed management of the area in 1978.
Please take the time to either email or call the NPS by March 12, 2010.
